How far in front of a home bar should tile go for seating?

I am in the process of designing/building a home bar in our basement. Most of the basement will be carpeted, but the area behind the bar and immediatly in front of it will be tiled. My question is how far in front of the bar needs to be tiled to comfortably allow for people to sit in bar stools placed on the tile surface? How far in front of a home bar should tile go for seating?
Yes, well, its the standard 3 feet, but I would give it 4 feet if you have room because you will want it to extend far enough away from your carpeted floor so that spills can be cleaned easily. 3 Feet allows a person on a high bar chair to turn around and for leg room but it really isn't adequate for cleaning things up. Make it 4 feet if you can.How far in front of a home bar should tile go for seating?
3 feet should be enough, depending on how wide your bar stools are
