What would be a good way to secure a house from burglary other than home security system and window bars?

our home just got broken into. They took small electronics, but we are afraid they might come back. We are putting up bars on the windows, and considering getting an alarm system. What is another way to keep a home safe? Maybe also another more affordable way to keep a home safe? What would be a good way to secure a house from burglary other than home security system and window bars?
Get an AK-47 or a very large house cat and paint him with tiger stripes. Or simply a Zebra. They'll be like what the Fu**?!?!?!?! THESE FREAKS OWN A ZEBRA. LET'S GET THE HE** OUT OF HERE!

P.S. I lost, you lost, we all lost the game. Screw the B%26amp;E
Large loud dog.

Know your neighbors.

Do not forget insurance %26amp; record ALL serial numbers. What would be a good way to secure a house from burglary other than home security system and window bars?
The only other thing I can think of is a dog(pitbull, rockweiller, doberman). But the costs of a dog per month, is probably more than a security system. And you should receive the home security company's signs to post in your yard and windows, once you activate your alarm system. This will be a deterrence when thieves see the signs.
Know your neighbours, Be friends with them you look out for them, they look out for you.

Get an alarm system, someone breaks in it will scare them.

Secure your doors, have proper locks and keep all expensive possesions in a safe location.

I dont know how your windows are but...take a stick thing that will fit behind a window (the part where it slides back when you wanna open it) and put the stick there, so if someone trys to open the window they cant. Same thing for a sliding door. What would be a good way to secure a house from burglary other than home security system and window bars?
The chepaest %26amp; the most affordable way is buy 2 or more "fake" security cams. Make them prominently visible. That's it.
