I have a 8 foot piece of granite that i would like to build a sturdy base for. As well as some storage for bottles, glasses, and the like below. Any specifications i should follow to make it sturdy and asethically pleasing? How to make a home bar?
Granite is heavy and would need a sturdy base, as you said. You could use 1 inch plywood for the front and two side supports, but extend the side supports about 6 inches past the front face, if the width of your granite top allows. And then cover the plywood with a nice oak or walnut veneer. Oak or walnut seem to compliment granite. A nice finishing touch would be brass accents. That is where the 6 inch front extension comes into play. At foot level for someone sitting on a stool, (about 6 inches off the ground) attach a 3 or 4 inch brass pipe from one side to the other as a classic style foot rest. You will need a center support, preferably brass again. Pipe end and center supports are available wherever you buy the pipe. Of course, real brass is very expensive these days. But you can buy an ordinary steel pipe and fittings and find a plating shop in your area for a whole lot less money. For the inside shelves, there are many pre-finished shelving boards and supports. Sorry if this is not all that clear. I can visualize it, build it, but have a hard time telling someone else how to do it. Good luck, and happy drinking at your new bar!How to make a home bar?
Depends on how your DIY skills are. To do this inexpensively, got to Home Depot or Lowes or similar and buy some base cabinets. Often you will find this cheaper than building it yourself. Now usually you want a wet bar, so cutting granite requires special tools and knowledge - as I recall when we had our granite kitchen put in and they forgot a hole where one of the inserts went it was an ordeal. You need to buy the sink, brushed stainless steel is best for a wet bar in my opinion and a standard faucet is fine, nothing fancy required. If you can do the plumbing yourself all the better. Buy a mirror for the wall and some glass shelving that attaches firmly to the mirror. Then all you have to do is stock the bar, consider a mini fridge for mixers and beer- they works wonders, a small wine chiller and an ice maker and a blender (Ninja from Target is good, crushes ice and make excellent mixed frozen drinks for the ladies). Have some space to store your snacks in attractive containers and attractive serving containers as well, nuts, tortilla chips and pretzels etc. Make sure you have all of the accompaniments such as stuffed olives, celery sticks, maraschino cherries, sliced lemon %26amp; limes...
Go visit some places that do specialized bar set-ups to get ideas if you are lacking the aesthetic appeal motivation. Really it's not hard, get a friend who is a girl or a gay guy friend (some of my best friends are gay and they are so much better at design and decoration than anyone else I know!) and shut up,listen and shop with a budget. How to make a home bar?
no but i can help you with your own alchohol. for whiskey take mashed sweet corn and sugar yeast let it ferment in a warm room til it stops bubbleing than put it in a metal pot and heat with a lid with a tube that is wear the alchohol will drain out of the tube into a bottle. for wine do the first part til it stops bubbleing filter threw a toulet
Depends on how much room you have - I wouldn't invest much if you're
renting out the place and not owning it. I keep bottles in the cupboards,
freezer or fridge = depending on the product / frequency of consumption
