Is a home bar tacky?

I'd like to build a 4 seater (stooler didn't sound good) in my living room. I know it would be a hit in the 1970's and 80's but is it still good today?

As always, one must keep home resale value in mind.

ThanksIs a home bar tacky?
I wouldn't. If you are having guests over, a small table set up in a corner, with your liquors, ice, mixers, lemons, etc., and glasses is very attractive and makes your guests feel welcome to help themselves, or you could offer to make them a drink. I also think the "bar" look went out years ago in living rooms. I have seen some lovely, very well thought out bars in dens, game rooms, etc., of some folks home and it fit in well in a room that isn't the first thing you see when you come in the living room.
i could see if it was in your basement but in your living room .i wouldn't buy a house with a bar in the living room.Is a home bar tacky?
VERY TACKY!!! Don't do it in your living room. If you have a basement, that would be good. That would make your house difficult to sell for sure.
I think it would be awesome and I would consider it a bonus if I were house hunting. I think in the basement would be more appropriate but I still think its a good idea. It doesn't have to be tacky, if it's done properly! Is a home bar tacky?
I would definitly put a bar in the basement! =)

It kinda personalizes it I guess...

Hope I helped..

PS-Best Answer? lol.
make it removeable, or free-standing. do not make it attached to any walls or floor. when thinking about resale value, sometimes personalizing too much hurts resale value.
maybe not in the living room...but if you must make it free standing that way it won't effect resale!
I don't think it's a good idea in your livingroom. An extra room or you could redo your basement if you have one.Having a bar in your home is a good idea,it'll keep you out of trouble and you can still visit with family and friends and have a good time.If you have a extra room to put a bar in,then you could do the night club theme with a dance floor and a corner couch to lounge on,maybe a sleeper sofa for those who get to drunk to drive. If you don't have an extra room or basement, try doing it in your kitchen.
Well i think in a basement it's awesome...

we are actually doing a game room in basement pool table. air hockey and a bar with bar stools...

as long it's movable... the next owner will be able to decide if they want to use it and keep it...
